somewhere bewtween nowhere & goodbye

What a great line, "somewhere between nowhere and goodbye." It perfectly describes the place I want to slip to when an old lover walks into the room, when my mother calls receeding emotionally back to an age younger than I am, when I feel invisible to those I love, when I view my life and my paltry accomplishments. When the line rolled out of Morgan Freeman's mouth I felt it instantly in my gut, as if he had revealed something personal and secret in what turned out to be an oscar winning movie, "Million Dollar Baby." (Of course with Morgan Freeman narrating, you could make a soap opera seem like a haunting universal human story--classic and profound. He is such a badass.) I'm glad I finally watched it. It was beautifully written, wonderfully shot, and brillaintly acted. And I'm glad I never have to watch it again. A well written drama is more horrifying than any horror movie I can think of, and at times the possible-ness of it is more than I can take. I am grateful for those movies. I need them. I seek them out. They are art. They make me feel alive. But most days, just give me the screaming blonde, the red karo syrup, the deformed monster in the closet--that way, I can relax.

The 40 Year Old Virgin. Hilarious--I adore Steve Carell. I really hope he does more movies.
